In this new article, we are going to discuss the fundamental new features of Trackkarma and in particular the additional tools designed for previously somewhat forgotten users, the officials.
Although they are essential for the proper practice of roller derby, the previous version of Trackkarma did not offer many features to help them in this role.
From the new homepage of Trackkarma, you can see the result of our efforts to address this situation. A new 'Official' menu indeed allows all members of a league to access a section dedicated to the officiating part of their career. Here, they can find a whole range of information specific to an official's profile as well as the history of the games they've officiated.

This history can be created manually by adding the games one by one, or automatically by importing an official's CV directly (also called the Flat Track Derby Officiating History Summary).
Once the history is filled, the official accesses a whole range of detailed statistics, presented in the form of tables and graphs.

Each official can also publicly share their CV. It contains the same information as in the Flat Track Derby Officiating History Summary but in a much more visual and pleasant-to-read format than an Excel file.

The new features don't stop there, of course. One recurring limitation of the previous version was the difficulty of knowing the availability of officials in a league for practices or games. This limitation has been corrected in the new version. Now, when a practice or game is edited, it is possible to specify if the availability of league members marked as officials should be requested. If they are requested, officials are notified and can indicate whether they are available or not.

Regarding games, the latest major addition concerns the ability to configure the official crew for each game. A new tab allows you to enter an official for each position. These officials can be selected from the list of members of your league or indicated as external officials. In the latter case, it is even possible to send an invitation. If it is accepted, the official will join the team even if they are not part of your league. Of course, all members of the official team will see this game automatically appear in their game history.

Finally, we are well aware that not all officials necessarily belong to a league and sometimes officiate as independents. In the new version of Trackkarma, it is now possible to create an official account without having to be part of a league, thus giving access to all the necessary tools to manage their history while remaining independent.

We have spent a tremendous amount of time evolving Trackkarma specifically to meet the needs of officials. Although other league management solutions exist, there were no applications specifically offering features dedicated to officials in the world of roller derby. With this new version of Trackkarma, we have attempted to address our previous shortcomings and believe we have succeeded in offering simple and practical tools to assist officials, whether they are members of a league or independent.
Of course, this is only the beginning as we still have several ideas for future improvements!
